Spinning My Wheels

Wheel actually.
So yesterday I found a place where I could actually by wool to spin. So exciting (for a nerd like me)!
This morning Brian and I got the spinning wheel set up and the bobbin in place using bits of cardboard from a beer case and a metal washer. Ahh, ingenuity. I think I need to find a leather strap or something to go around the wheel because I can't get the tension right. Still. It kind of worked which is pretty cool.

The Fruits of My Labour

Sorry for the poor picture quality. Here are my beans and peaches.

Sweaty Yoga

I almost didn't go, but Brian encouraged me to drag my butt out of bed and get to the 90 minute 6:30 yoga class downtown.

I do like being up early; I just don't like the getting up part.

90 minutes of sweaty yoga is pretty hardcore.

I feel very bendy and hungry.

Another craptacular run

Seriously. Today sucked too. Even though I hit shuffle on my ipod and the first song was Girlfriend. I was filled with a peppy little zing of energy for about thirty seconds--about as long as it took me to get to South and see that they were already in football practice mode (which seems unfair to me. They probably call it a "club" because I think technically they're not allowed to practice yet).

I guess I'll just keep at it until it gets back to normal. 5k should not be that hard.

Thinking about trying to hit that 6:30 hot yoga class tomorrow. 90 minutes of sweat and bendy-ness to get my day off to a good start.

Om.

Canning under pressure

So I figured that I'd do some canning today to relieve some of the stress that I'm under. I'm going to do peaches and dilled green beans. Don't know if I'll do both today or not. I'll let you know how it goes.

Boo. Some of the bean jars didn't seal. Guess I'll have to eat a bunch right away.

Crappy Run

I went for my first run since having my wisdom teeth removed, and it wasn't very fun. I thought I'd take it easy and just do a 5k, but it felt more like the 14k I did the week before. Actually no. The 14k felt good even though I was tired. This felt crappy. My breathing was terrible, and I can't believe how aware I was of my mouth. It felt like my jaw was rattling around.

Yuck.

Also I was unbelievably slow. 6:02 pace. Ew.

Allergies or a cold my be a contributing factor. Still ... ew.

And to make matters worse, I saw Steve, a retired teacher and marathon runner, out on the trail and he always looks so darn happy when he runs. He gave me the runner's wave. He looks like he's just shuffling along but don't be fooled. That man is moving.

Oh well. The important thing is I got back out there.

I hate running

People talk about the runner's high they get when they run and I've run a half marathon and the only thing I got was some nasty blisters and aching knees.
I decided to run a half marathon on a whim mostly because I've always thought of myself as a non-athletic person. But I thought hey, I'm healthy; I should be able to do this. And it would be fun to be able to say that I had.
Little did I know that running the actual half marathon was only a tiny part of the whole picture. First, there was the training. And training, my friend, is no fun at all. Don't even get me started on power gel.
